Chicken Coop Plans.
If you are someone that considers yourself quite handy, and have
gotten stuck into a few DIY projects over the years then building
your own chicken coop or hen house is something you may be considering.
It can be a very rewarding experience, although the amount of
money you can ultimately save may not be worth the effort, once
you factor in the cost of materials and the time it could take.
Ultimately your chicken coop needs to provide protection for
your hens. Protection from predators likes foxes and unruly dogs,
as well as from the elements – cold winds, hot summer sun,
and our most common occurrence - rain. Ideally it should also
have a place where your hens can perch in peace and a nesting
box where they quietly lay their eggs. Your design should make
it easily accessible too, not only for the collection of eggs,
but also for cleaning. (Most of our coops come with removable
collection trays which make cleaning a breeze)
How you design your coop will, of course, also depend greatly
on your needs. If you are planning to have just a few hens then
a smaller, then more portable chicken coop, may be the direction
to head. Coops like these are known as a "chicken tractors"
and can be moved every few days or weeks from one part of your
lawn to another so the grass does not get decimated.
Following a good set of plans or blueprints can really make life
easier. There a few places online that have a few free chicken
coop plans available, most are very simple and not that easy to
follow. While we ourselves don’t have any chicken coop plans
available on our site we can direct you to a few websites that
maybe of some help.
Building your own hen house for your chickens might seem like
