The Kent Coop is our most affordable model and is made from the same durable wood we use in our other popular chicken houses. With over 6 square feet of internal space this coop provides you with enough room for 4 to 5 medium sized hens.

Kent chicken coop

The Kent coop has been designed to be easy to clean. It comes with a large rear slide out tray, as well as a removable slatted floor in the nesting box.

Accessing all areas of the coop is also an important feature we wanted and so have added a lift up roof which is held in place by handy metal stays - which makes accessing, as well as cleaning the internal areas of the coop that much easier.

On both sides of the coop are 2 narrow ventilation windows situated just under the roof overlap. This allows for adequate ventilation without the worry of the coop becoming drafty. The housing area is also raised off the ground which will keep mud and dampness out of the hen house.

Kent nesting box and ramp

The front opening hinged door doubles as a little ramp for your hens and allows them to enter and exit the housing area. Inside they will find two large removeable perches on which to roost at night, as well as a cosy nesting box that has been divided into two compartments, where they can lay their eggs.

The superb quality and beautiful design of the Kent means that it will look fantastic in any garden, and give your chickens many years of pleasure.

High quality woodwork with strong joints - means that the hen house won't fall apart if you move it around.

A large opening roof with metal stays which keep it open - makes it a breeze to access the internal areas of the coop.

Large removable tray collects your hens waste - and makes cleaning a much quicker process.

Draft free ventilations slots located high up on either side of the coop helps prevent the build up of stale toxic air.

Two fully removeable and correctly designed perches allows your hens to perch comfortably at night.

Maintenance

Our wooden coops are treated with a base coat of wood preservative. The wood we use in this product is a highly durable and scented softwood which is noted for its resistance to decay and rot.

As with all outdoor wooden structures we strongly recommend that you treat your coop with a high quality varnish or wood preservative before exposing it to the elements and that you re-treat it at least once a year (preferably before the winter season) to maintain the applied preservative and water repellent properties. There are many popular products available with Cuprinol, Ronseal and Wilkinson amongst the better known brands.

We also recommend that you try and position your chicken coop in a protected area which is not overly exposed to high winds and the elements.

Delivery Options

There are two delivery options available at checkout.

Standard (£12.95): Orders are usually dispatched 3 to 5 working days after an order is placed.
Express (£17.95): Orders are usually dispatched the next working day.

Most orders are usually delivered in 1 to 2* working days after they have been dispatched. Deliveries are typically made Monday to Friday between 8.00am - 6.30pm. (Working days are Monday to Friday but don't include public holidays.)

If you need your order urgently then choose the express delivery option for priority dispatch.

Where can we deliver to?

Orders can be delivered anywhere in mainland England, Wales and some areas in the Scottish lowlands. If you live outside these areas we unfortunately cannot deliver our products to you.

Like most online compaies we rely on (3rd party) courier companies to deliver all our orders. As much as we would love to get our products in the hands of as many people as possible the cost of getting our coops to anyone who lives outside mainland England and Wales is prohibitive - upwards of £70.

If you live outside these regions you are welcome to arrange collection from us using a company like Parcel Force or Parcel Monkey.

Delivery to Scottish Postcodes

Scottish postcodes that we can deliver to include:

Scottish Lowlands (e.g. Glasgow/Edinburgh and surrounds) and (Zone 2) -All AB, IV, KW1-14, PA34, PA37-39, PH19-41, PH49-50

Unfortunatly we cannot deliver to Scottish post codes not included above. This is due to the size of our products and the very high costs (£60 - £120+) levied by the courier company we use.

You are welcome to arrange your own courier to collect from us however. Here is a list of couriers that may help.

Delivery to Isle of Wight

The courier company that we use can deliver to the Isle of Wight. However there is a delivery surcharge of £15.95 per order. Please contact us if you live in the Isle of Wight before you place your order so we can send you a special link to place your order.

Delivery Questions

Damaged, Faulty or Missing Items

*This is an estimate based on the majority of orders sent, however we cannot absolutely guarantee it.

1. How many hens can the Kent Coop hold?

It will depend on the breed of chicken and the size of the breed, and also how you intend to keep them.

The roosting and nesting area of the Kent coop will hold 4 to 5 medium sized birds. What is probably more important to consider is the amount of space they will have during the day.

If you intend to give them time to roam around your garden then the run space is less of a determining factor and 4 maybe 5 hens would be fine.

However if they are to spend their entire day inside the Kent then to be fair to your hens we would recommend just 2 and ideally, we'd hope you would consider upgrading to one of our larger coops.

The benefit of all our coops is that runs can be added at a later date to extend your space should the need arise and in theory you can add as many run extensions as you need.

On a side note, we'd recommend that whatever your circumstance and set up it's best if you can give your hens at least a few hours outside their coop and run in the late afternoon and early evening.

2. Can I fit an Automatic Door Opener to this coop?

No unfortunately not. All the door openers on the market work with doors that open in an up/down direction (pop-hole doors). As the Kent has a hinged door a door opener would not work.

However, the Devon Hen House has been specifically designed so that it can be fitted with an automatic door opener. We use and recommend this door opener.

3. Can I move the Kent Chicken Coop easily?

Yes it can be moved but at almost 40kgs you are going to need an extra pair of hands to help you move it.

4. Can I add a run at a later stage?

Yes, you can add extra Kent Runs at any stage and you can join as many runs together to form as long space as you need. For more information on the Kent Run by itself click here: Kent Run.

5. Is the wood treated?

Yes, the Kent Chicken Coop comes with a base coat treatment of wood preservative.

As with all outdoor wooden structures in our harsh climate, we recommend that the timber is treated on a regular basis to ensure a long life. If the coop is treated to begin with and thereafter on a yearly basis, and is well looked after and cleaned regularly there is no reason why a lifespan of 5 to 7 years could not be expected.

There are many popular products available with CuprinolRonseal and Wilkinson amongst the better-known brands.

A lot of customers use and recommend these: Brand Option 1 or Brand Option 2

6. Can I use the Kent for rabbits?

While the product has been specifically designed to house chickens a few customers have purchased the Kent Chicken Coop for their rabbits and the feedback has been positive.

We also make and sell wide range of well made rabbit hutches and runs: Visit our website: www.Rabbit-Hutches.co.uk

7. Is the Kent Chicken Coop fox-proof?

We would like to think that our coops are made to a higher standard than most other suppliers in this price range. While we have purposely used thicker, sturdier wood with the aim to make it as safe and secure as possible for your chickens we cannot absolutely guarantee that foxes and other predators won’t try and target them.

Foxes are by far the biggest threat that your pets will face so if you are going to keep chickens then we also urge you to take these added precautions especially if you know you have foxes in your area.
