Kent Chicken Coop & Run

Rating:
99% of 100

The Kent is our most affordable chicken coop yet is made from the same pre-treated durable wood that we use in our other popular chicken houses. With over 6 square feet of internal space, this coop provides enough room for up to 4 medium-sized hens.

The Kent with Run is perfect for those who want a well-thought-out chicken coop that can hold up to 4 or 5 medium-sized chickens and also want the option of a separate run that can be either fixed permanently to the coop or simply pushed up against it to give you total control of your flock if and when you need it.

Kent chicken coop with run

With over 11 square feet of space the large Kent Run allows your hens an enclosed outside area to roam around during the day. The newly redesigned run can now also be easily extended should the need arise.

Inside the Kent run

The run has also been fitted with a much higher grade type of wire mesh. In fact, the heavy-duty wire mesh is 50% thicker than most of the other online suppliers.

strong wire

This increase in wire quality and thickness makes the run more secure. It has also been set into the wooden framework which adds to the rigidity of the run structure.

Wire and Lock

Accessing various areas of the run without disturbing your hens is easy too thanks to a large foldable roof panel, as well as wide lockable doors on either side of the run.

The Kent with run open

We have designed the Kent to be as easy to clean as possible. With this in mind, the coop comes with a large removable pull out tray, as well as a removable slatted floor in the nesting box.

The Kent chicken coop

The front opening hinged door doubles as a little ramp for your hens and allows them to enter and exit the housing area. This can be closed at night. The housing area is also raised off the ground which will keep mud and dampness out of the hen house.

The Kent with ramp for hens

On both sides of the Kent coop are 2 narrow ventilation windows situated just under the roof overlap allowing for the necessary ventilation of the coop without the worry of it becoming too drafty.

The hen perches

Inside they have two large perch on which to roost at night, as well as a cosy nesting box that has been divided into two compartments, where they can lay their eggs.

How many hens can the Kent Coop With Run hold?

The roosting and nesting area of the Kent coop will hold 4 to 5 medium sized birds. What is probably more important to consider is the amount of space they will have during the day. If you intend to give them time to roam around your garden then the run space is less of a determining factor and 4 maybe 5 hens would be fine. However, if they are to spend their entire day inside the Kent with Run then 2 - 3 medium sized hens would be our recommendation. If you are thinking about investing in the Kent with Double Run then you can increase that number to 4 hens.

Wood & General Maintenance

The wood we use in this product is a highly durable and scented softwood which is noted for its resistance to decay and rot. Our wooden coops are treated with a base coat of wood preservative but as with all outdoor wooden structures, we recommend that you treat your coop with a high-quality varnish or wood preservative once a year (preferably before the winter season) to maintain the applied preservative and water repellent properties. We also highly recommend that you try and position your chicken coop in a protected area which is not overly exposed to high winds and the elements.

Where can we deliver to?

Orders can be delivered anywhere in mainland England, Wales, and most areas in the lowlands of Scotland. If you live outside these areas we then, unfortunately, cannot deliver our products to you. This includes the Channel Islands and Northern Ireland (IM, GY, JE, BT)

Like most online companies we rely on (3rd party) courier companies to deliver all our orders around the country. As much as we would love to get our products in the hands of as many people as possible the cost of getting our coops to anyone who lives outside mainland England and Wales is prohibitive - sometimes more than the actual cost of the product!

Delivery to Scotland

We can deliver to most lowland areas in Scotland. These include the following postcodes: DD1-7 , DG , EH , FK1-6 , G , KA1-26 , KA29-30 , KY , ML , PA1-19 , PH1-2, TD

If you live outside these areas then unfortunately, we are unable to offer delivery due to the high extra charges levied by the courier companies we use. You are welcome to arrange your own courier to collect from us, or we can deliver the items to a courier up north for onward journey to you.

Delivery to the Isle of Wight

The courier company that we use can deliver to the Isle of Wight. However, there is a delivery surcharge of £70 per order.

*This is an estimate based on the majority of orders sent, however, we cannot absolutely guarantee it.

1. How many hens can the Kent Coop with run hold?

It will depend on the breed of chicken and the size of the breed, and also how you intend to keep them.

The benefit of all our coops is that the run can be extended at a later date should the need arise and in theory you can add as many run extensions as you need. On a side note, we'd recommend that whatever your circumstance and set up if you can give your hens a few hours outside their coop and run in the late afternoon and early evening.

2. Can I fit an Automatic Door Opener to this coop?

No unfortunately not. All the door openers on the market work with doors that open in an up/down direction (pop-hole doors). As the Kent has a hinged door a door opener would not work. However, the Devon Hen House has been specifically designed so that it can be fitted with an automatic door opener.

3. Can I move the Kent Chicken Coop easily?

Yes it can be moved but at almost 40kgs you are going to need an extra pair of hands to help you move it.Our best advice is to detach the run first before moving.

4. Can I add a run at a later stage?

Yes, you can add extra Kent Runs at any stage and you can join as many runs together to form as long space as you need. For more information on the Kent Run by itself click here: Kent Chicken Coop Run.

5. Is the wood treated?

Yes, the Kent Chicken Coop comes with a base coat treatment of wood preservative.

As with all outdoor wooden structures in our harsh climate, we recommend that the timber is treated on a regular basis to ensure a long life. If the coop is treated, to begin with, and thereafter on a yearly basis, and is well looked after and cleaned regularly there is no reason why a lifespan of 5 to 7 years could not be expected. There are many popular products available with Cuprinol, Ronseal and Wilkinson amongst the better known brands.A lot of customers use and recommend these: Brand Option 1 or Brand Option 2.

6. Can I use the Kent for rabbits?

While the product has been specifically designed to house chickens a few customers have purchased the Kent Chicken Coop for their rabbits and the feedback has been positive. We also make and sell wide range of well made rabbit hutches and runs: Visit our website: www.Rabbit-Hutches.co.uk

7. Is the Kent Chicken Coop fox-proof?

We would like to think that our coops are made to a higher standard than most other suppliers in this price range. While we have purposely used thicker, sturdier wood with the aim to make it as safe and secure as possible for your chickens we cannot absolutely guarantee that foxes and other predators won’t try and target them. Foxes are by far the biggest threat that your pets will face so if you are going to keep chickens then we also urge you to take these added precautions especially if you know you have foxes in your area.

The Kent with Run is perfect for those who want a well-thought-out chicken coop that can hold up to 4 or 5 medium-sized chickens and also want the option of a separate run that can be either fixed permanently to the coop or simply pushed up against it to give you total control of your flock if and when you need it.
