Electric fencing kits

As a domestic or small scale poultry keeper, ensuring that your birds are in a safe, secure environment is almost certainly one of your top priorities, and with an affordable and simple-to-use electric fencing kit, nothing could be easier.

Foxes, badgers, mink and your own or other people’s dogs and cats can all represent a significant threat to poultry, regardless of whether they are kept in your own back garden in the city or out in the countryside.

With your chicken coop safely enclosed within the confines of an electric poultry net especially designed for its purpose, you can sleep soundly in the knowledge that your birds cannot escape and that they are protected from other wildlife. If you are worried that your prized poultry might themselves suffer adverse effects from the electrical pulse, then don’t be. These birds learn very quickly not to get too close.

Available in lengths of either 25 or 50 metres and standing at a height of 110cms, these highly effective netting kits are ideal for smaller plots of land. Being easy to move around from one position to another, your birds are still afforded full protection and benefit from a fresh patch of ground whilst the used land has a chance to recover, something which is especially important if your poultry are kept in your back garden.

Powered by 12V battery or 220V mains electricity, our poultry netting kits come complete with a dual power energiser, an earth spike, four sturdy corner posts, as well as the netting itself. The 25 metre kit uses an HLC40 energiser and the 50 metre version the HLC80 model. Leaving aside the technical terminology though, the kit is incredibly easy to assemble and even a complete novice will be able to install it in no time at all.

Essentially, the energiser is what supplies the electric pulse to the fencing from the power supply. After having inserted the earth stake into the ground, the energiser is fixed quickly and easily using a bolt and wing nut.

A flashing indicator light on the energiser lets you know that everything is working and that the fence is live and, if you are using a battery, you will be able to see when it is running low as the colour of the light changes to red.

As the bottom strand of netting is not live and so is unaffected by any stray blades of grass which might touch it, the system effectively saves any unnecessary drain on the power supply.

Keeping poultry, even for domestic and small scale use still requires an investment. With one of these great little kits though, you can ensure that your investment is protected and that your birds are kept safe from harm.

Important points:

1. All kits are powered by either a 12v battery or from 220v mains.
2. If you intend to run your fencing from a battery then you will need to purchase a 12v battery (preferably a leisure battery of minimum 75ah) and a have a means to recharge it. These can be bought at Halfords or somewhere similar.
3. A fully charged battery should give you a 4 week period before it needs to be recharged.
4. If you intend to run the system from the mains you will need to house the energiser indoors or in a weather proof environment. A HT lead out cable is supplied with the mains operated electric fencing kit.
