What type of wood do you use for your coops?
Our coops are made from wood of an evergreen coniferous tree (cypress family) called Cunninghamia. It is a light, fragrant softwood renowned for its extreme durability. This term 'softwood' is actually a little misleading because some 'softwoods' are harder than some 'hardwoods' The wood is easy to work with and is used not only in our chicken coops and rabbit hutches but also in construction, ship building as well as in garden furniture. What we particularly like about it is that it has a strong resistance to rot. That being said we still recommend you treat all areas of your coop at least once a year to prolong the life of the product as you would with any exterior timber product in the U.K.
