Due to very high demand new orders for the Dorset Coop will be dispatched from the 6th of June.

The well thought out Dorset With Run offers you plenty of flexability with almost 30 sq feet of space and a large run that can be easily extended at a later date should the need arise.

The large run can be either permanently attached to the coop or simply pushed up against it.

And with many easy to use access points throughout the coop you'll never have a problem tending to your chickens or cleaning it out.

The large run is made with higher grade wire and has two side opening doors and a folding roof, all of which can be locked and secured.

A large lift up roof is held in place by metal stays and provides easy hands free access into the roosting and perching area.

The large front panel can be completely removed to allow you to access the internal areas for cleaning. The unboltable nesting box and extra deep pull out tray add to the easy to clean features of the Dorset.

Inside the housing area are two removable perches and a large nesting box for your hens to lay.

"I would happily recommend this product and the company to anyone"

For me the customer service and quality of product were the most impressive points. Slight problem with delivery but Mike responded immediatley and then followed it up to ensure that all was well.I constructed the coop 10 days ago and, although the plans are basic, it was easy to do and took approximately 50 mins.Impressive wood quality and finish. The following day I collected 3 rescued battery hens who were impressed enough to give us our first egg this morning - result! I would happily recommend this product and the Company to anyone.

"The coop itself was wonderfully laid out and very easy to assemble"

Last week I went about looking for chicken coops online as a bithday present for my other half. He's wanted chickens his whole life, but his parents believed they were too much hassle, and being a farm girl myself I knew that they were actually fun and easy to keep. So I went about making this a reality for him, and did so with the amazing help of ChickenCoopsDirect!

ChickenCoopsDirect was FANTASTIC in absolutely every aspect! The delivery time was extraordinarily fast, and not only were they efficient, but SO friendly! The man who delivered them took them all the way into the yard for us and was so social and talkative! A real pleasure! The officies also ensured that I recieved a call as my coop was nearing my house so that I could plan my day around it's delivery! Genuinely top notch service and such accomodating staff.

The coop itself was WONDERFULLY laid out and very easy to assemble and was up and running within 45 minutes of unpacking it. Since then our wonderful two ladies have arrived (literally the next day!) and absolutely LOVE their new home. On the first night they perched quite happily and since then have started utilizing the nesting areas. The sturdyness and security of the coop have both already been tested, as we have had two nights of consecutive storms with gale force winds down here at the coast of Bournemouth. Similarly the neighbouring cats have already shown an interest in our new arrivals and have been spotted perched ontop of and prowling around our Dorset coop, quite aggravated that our wonderful housing system has thwarted their meal ideas. The chickens have not been stressed or scared by their appearance and so we believe that they have as much confidence in the coop as we do! Thanks again to ChickenCoopsDirect! I will be recommending you to all my friends and family for all their small animal and poultry housing needs! Kind Regards,

"Top marks for this product!"

I am absolutely delighted with the Dorset coop. The delivery was handled very efficiently, and it arrived on the day promised. Although the hens aren't in it yet, it is built and sited. My DH said it went together very easily, and the only alteration was adding a handle to the run door, to make it easier for me to pull open. Top marks for this product!

Chicken Houses Runs Review

1.How many hens can the Dorset with Run hold?

It will depend on the breed of chicken and the size of the breed, and also how you intend to keep them.

The raised roosting and nesting area of the Dorset coop will hold 5 to 6 medium sized birds quite comfortably.

What is probably more important to consider is the amount of space they will have during the day.

If you intend to give them time to roam around your garden then the run space is less of a determining factor and 6 hens would be fine.

However if they are to spend their entire day inside the Dorset with Run then 2 - 3 medium sized hens would be our recommendation.

If you are thinking about investing in the Dorset with Double Run then you can increase that number to 4 hens and they would be fine.

The benefit of all our coops is that the run can be extended at a later date should the need arise and in theory you can add as many run extensions as you need.

On a side note, we'd recommend that whatever your circumstance and set up if you can give your hens a few hours outside their coop and run in the late afternoon and early evening.

2.Can I set up the Dorset the other way around?

While some customers in the past have set up their coop the other way around, it's not straightforward and would involve a fair bit of D.I.Y to do, so unless you are adept at D.I.Y then the Dorset should be put together the way it is shown in the photos on our website.

3.Can I fit an Automatic Door Opener to this coop?

No,unfortunately not. All the door openers on the market work with doors that open in an up/down direction (pop-hole doors). As the Dorset has a sliding door a door opener would not work.

But the Devon Hen House has been specifically designed so it can be fitted with an automatic door opener. We use and recommend this door opener.

4.Is the wood treated?

Yes, the Dorset with Run comes with a base coat treatment of wood preservative

But as with all outdoor wooden structures in our harsh climate, we recommend that the timber is treated on a regular basis to ensure a long life. If the coop is treated, to begin with, and thereafter on a yearly basis and is well looked after and cleaned regularly there is no reason why a lifespan of 5 to 7 years could not be expected.

There are many popular products available with Cuprinol, Ronseal, and Wilkinson amongst the better-known brands.

A lot of customers use and recommend these: Brand Option 1 or Brand Option 2.

5. Can I add a run at a later stage

Yes, you can add runs at any stage. These can be joined onto the front or back of the coop and you can join as many runs together to form as long space as you need. For more information on the. For more information on the Dorset Run by itself click here: Dorset and Kent Runs

6. How do I lock the roof

The best place to attach a latch is to the side of the coop as shown in the image below.

7. Is the Dorset fox proof?

We would like to think that our coops are made to a higher standard than most other suppliers in this price range. While we have purposely used thicker, sturdier wood, wire and locks with the aim to make it as safe and secure as possible for your chickens we cannot absolutely guarantee that foxes and other predators won’t try and target them.

Foxes are by far the biggest threat that your pets will face so if you are going to keep your chickens then we also urge you to take these added precautions especially if you know you have foxes in your area.

Our wooden coops are treated with a base coat of wood preservative. The wood we use in this product is a highly durable and scented softwood which is noted for its resistance to decay and rot.

As with all outdoor wooden structures we strongly recommend that you treat your coop with a high quality varnish or wood preservative before exposing it to the elements and that you re-treat it at least once a year (preferably before the winter season) to maintain the applied preservative and water repellent properties. There are many popular products available with Cuprinol , Ronseal and Wilkinson amongst the better known brands.

We also recommend that you try and position your chicken coop in a protected area which is not overly exposed to high winds and the elements.
